Code of Conduct
Directors, Managers, Coaches, Parents and Adult Volunteers
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these 'six pillars of character.'
I therefore agree:
I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults
I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league
I will be a positive role model and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, umpires, league officials and spectators.
I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any umpire, coach, player, league official or parent such as taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures
I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well being of the athletes, spectators, or officials.
I will resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence
I will treat players, umpires coaches, league officials and parents with respect
I will teach that doing one's best is more important than winning
I will never ridicule or yell at a any official, coach, player, parent or league official
I will emphasize skill development and practices over winning (de-emphasizing games and competition)
I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes
I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront umpires, players, coaches, parents or league officials at the game field. I will take time to speak with the appropriate parties at an agreed upon time and place
I will promote a sports environment that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use on the field in the presence of the players
'I therefore pledge to treat all players, umpires, parents, coaches/mangers and league officials with respect on and off the field, at league meetings or other league sanctioned events. I will not resort to violence, foul or abusive language or any other inappropriate behavior to resolve conflict. I recognize the responsibilities inherent with my association with Wyoma Little League and will be a positive role model, uphold the best interests of the players and the league and will abide by this Code of Conduct.'
In the event the League is notified of a violation of the above Code of Conduct, an investigation will take place by the Board. Depending on the nature, circumstances or frequency of a violation, individuals may receive a warning (verbal or written) or the violation could result in a suspension up to and including, expulsion for the remainder of the season. The President has the authority (without a Board vote) to suspend a violator for one game (inclusive of all team or league events prior to the game which is to be served as the suspension).
Any aggrieved party who has received a suspension, can petition, in writing, for an appeal within three days of the suspension. A hearing with the Board will be scheduled as quickly as possible. At this hearing, the parties will be allowed to state their case and the Board will render its decision within one week of the written appeal request.
Always remember your actions speak louder than words!
